Cogmed Training for Working Memory

Teen cognitive trainingA teenager sits at a home computer wearing headphones.  She watches the screen intently as a sequence of lights appear and disappear on several asteroids floating in space.  She uses the mouse to repeat the sequence of lights, and the asteroids explode in a flash of light.

So what is really going on here?

Like thousands of others around the world, this student is training her brain using Cogmed Working Memory Training.  She will participate in these computerized working memory exercises for approximately 30 minutes per day, five days per week for five weeks.  With each click of the mouse, the level of difficulty adjusts based on her real-time performance, ensuring that the program is rigorously strengthening the working memory without becoming too frustrating.

Cogmed Working Memory Training is an evidence-based program for helping children, adolescents and adults improve attention by training their working memory.  It is proven and effective for attention and memory problems associated with ADHD, professional overload, normal aging, stroke, and traumatic brain injury.

Designed by neuroscientists at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, the effectiveness of Cogmed training has been documented in rigorous research studies with thousands of clinical users over the past 10 years.  Research indicates that Cogmed provides substantial and lasting improvement in attention, learning, and school/work performance for people with poor working memory – in all age groups.  More than 80% of Cogmed users report significant improvement in school and/or their daily lives.  Cogmed qualified practice
